A. muciniphila has both protective and pathogenic effects, depending in part, on the degree of colonization of the host in multiple intestinal inflammatory models, including IL-10 colitis (Seregin et al., 2017), radiation and methotrexate intestinal injury, Salmonella typhimurium (Ganesh et al., 2013), and DSS colitis (Li et al., 2017; Bian et al., 2019).
