Whereas perinatal stressors including prolonged labour, meconium aspiration, birth asphyxia, intraventricular hemorrhage, induction of labour may cause an elevation in CRP in the first few days after birth25–27 in view of the high mortality associated with neonatal jaundice in the first 6 days of life14 and sepsis as one of the major contributors to neonatal mortality in LMIC28, we concluded that sepsis was most probable cause for these findings. The gene discussed is CRP; the disease is Intraventricular hemorrhage.
