Tonon et al. (2022) observed that patients with COVID-19 in severe condition present high levels of leptin and low adiponectin/leptin ratio, associated with increased expression of IL-6. Reiterer et al. (2021) demonstrated that SARS-CoV-2 in the adipose tissue of hamsters have decreased adiponectin protein level, but no mRNA levels alteration, suggesting the involvement of a post-transcriptional mechanism in this process. Here, LEP is linked to COVID-19.
