In both the spleen and the peripheral blood, the mice treated with IL-27 during the initiation of atherosclerosis showed lower counts of Th1 (spleen: 5.7 ± 0.6% vs 8.0 ± 0.5%, respectively; P = 0.01; Figure 5) (blood: 7.9 ± 0.2% vs 10.7 ± 0.5%, respectively; P < 0.001; Figure 6), and Th17 cells (spleen: 0.74 ± 0.04% vs 1.63 ± 0.12%, respectively; P < 0.001; Figure 5) (blood: 0.72 ± 0.07% vs 1.27 ± 0.03%, respectively; P < 0.001; Figure 6) than the PBS-treated mice. This evidence concerns the gene IL27 and atherosclerosis.
