Acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) is a subtype of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) characterized by the t(15;17)(q22;q12) translocation, resulting in the fusion of the promyelocytic leukemia (PML) gene and retinoic acid receptor alpha (RARα) gene (PML-RARα) [1]. The gene discussed is RARA; the disease is acute myeloid leukemia.
