Aside from insulin resistance and obesity, which are the leading pathogeneses of NAFLD,13 a strong association between liver fat and genetic variants in patatin‐like phospholipase domain‐containing protein 3 (PNPLA3) rs738409 and transmembrane 6 superfamily 2 human gene (TM6SF2) rs58542926 has been discovered through genome‐wide association studies.14, 15. This evidence concerns the gene TM6SF2 and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
