We also found that SNPs previously associated with body mass index and obesity interacted with cortisol to influence genes located as far as 150,000bp away such as FBXL19, an adipogenesis-controlling gene (56), HSD3B7, a cholesterol metabolizing enzyme (Supplementary Figure S11a, b), or CADM1, a gene that regulates body weight via neuronal modulation (57). Here, HSD3B7 is linked to obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
