OXT and post-traumatic stress disorder: Regarding the common symptoms of PTSD such as intrusive memories and flashbacks, avoidance behavior, (negative) changes in cognition and in arousal (American Psychiatric Association, 2013), as well as deficits in social cognition (e.g. empathy, compassion and Theory of Mind) (Couette, Mouchabac, Bourla, Nuss, & Ferreri, 2020; Palgi, Klein, & Shamay-Tsoory, 2016), the neuropeptide and hormone Oxytocin (OXT) may bear relevance for the treatment of PTSD (Palgi, Klein, & Shamay-Tsoory, 2016).
