Based on data showing that patients with P. falciparum malaria and mice experimentally infected with Plasmodium28 displayed histological signs of hyperplastic KCs containing hemozoin (malarial pigment), centrizonal hepatocellular necrosis with focal inflammation and degeneration31, here we investigated the impacts of murine P. chabaudi infection on KCs biology and function, and how such alterations on KCs profile can impact on the severity of co-infections in bacterial and viral models. The gene discussed is TBCE; the disease is coinfection.
