MTOR and cancer: While mTOR is critical to the normal function of the cell, dysregulation of mTOR is common in tumors of the breast (Paplomata and O’Regan, 2014; Hare and Harvey, 2017), where a constitutively active mTOR plays a role in several aspects of tumor pathology, including the rapid proliferation and resistance to apoptosis that are among the hallmarks of cancer (Cargnello et al., 2015).
