To examine the source of increased MFGE8 expression in patients with Alzheimer’s disease, we further interrogated the RNA-sequencing data by constructing gene regulatory networks using SCENIC26 to identify genes that are co-regulated with MFGE8. This revealed only one group (or module) of genes associated with Alzheimer’s disease pathology (that is, with at least ten genes being differentially expressed in Alzheimer’s disease patients versus controls) (Fig. 2h). This evidence concerns the gene MFGE8 and early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
