Five of the six hrp2 negative had low-parasite densities of < 10 pRBC/μL, which may have been nearing the reliable limit of detection for the endpoint PCR used to target hrp2. Detection of hrp2 in 80% (20/25) of low-density samples is greater than the sensitivity of us-RDT (8/25, 32%), indicating that lower sensitivity of us-RDT in these infections was not due to high abundance of hrp2 deletions. The gene discussed is HDGFL2; the disease is infection.
