In analyzing a clinical cohort of 106 NPC patients (Table 1) with complete records of clinicopathological characteristics and blood adiponectin concentrations, we found that median blood adiponectin level was lower in patients with high-grade (stage III and IV) tumors compared with that in patients with low-grade tumors (stage I and II) (2.06 vs. 3.87 μg/mL, p = 0.019), and that similar findings were also observed in recurrent patients vs. nonrecurrent patients (1.05 vs. 2.28 μg/mL, p = 0.031) (Table 1). This evidence concerns the gene ADIPOQ and nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
