Considering the role of Rbfox1 in the regulation of splicing and transcriptional networks important for neurogenesis and neuronal function, and that the disruption of its functions have been associated with several neurodevelopmental, neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases, it was expected that deletion of this gene in RGCs would have a dramatic effect on their phenotype and survival in response to injury. This evidence concerns the gene RBFOX1 and neurodegenerative disease.
