In one of our previous synthetic scaffold-based 3D models, we cultured AML cells with mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and demonstrated superior results in terms of chemoresistance to daunorubicin and increased N-cadherin expression when compared to 2D models or suspension conditions [14], which also supports the role of adhesion molecules in inducing chemoresistance in AML cells [14]. The gene discussed is CDH2; the disease is acute myeloid leukemia.
