Oxidative stress is the major contributor to the pathogenesis of X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy (X-ALD) [1,2,3,4,5,6], an inherited neurodegenerative disease caused by mutations of the ABCD1 gene, encoding a peroxisomal transmembrane protein responsible for peroxisomal import and degradation of very-long-chain fatty acids (VLCFAs) [7,8]. The gene discussed is ABCD1; the disease is X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy.
