UGT1A1 and atherosclerosis: Therefore, the objective of our study was to assess the relationship between serum bilirubin concentrations, the (TA)n UGT1A1 gene promoter variants (being the most important genetic determinant of serum bilirubin concentrations) [6], and the markers of oxidative stress and inflammation in patients with various forms of atherosclerosis, as well as to assess whether these factors are more deteriorated in patients with premature atherosclerosis.
