Equally, FABP4 secreted by periprostatic adipose tissue is taken up by prostate cancer cells in order to promote tumor invasiveness, while metastatic prostate cancer cells exposed to adipocyte-conditioned media demonstrate increased hemeoxygenase-1, IL-1β expression and increased tumor cell invasiveness, an effect attenuated by blocking FABP4 or IL-1β signaling [36,37,38].
