The members under this genus are Gram-positive lactic acid bacteria that are non-spore-forming, nonmotile, heterofermentative, catalase-negative, and short rod-shaped, and they possess anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anti-fungal, and immune-boosting potential while being extensively used for the preparation of fermented foods as well as in probiotics [69,70,71,72].
