We opted to test this approach in the DO11 × RIPmOVA model of diabetes, in which ovalbumin (OVA)-specific DO11.10 T cells instigate immune-mediated destruction of pancreatic β-cells bearing OVA, since it has been shown that IL-2 complexes alone are ineffective at regulating disease in this strain29. The gene discussed is IL2; the disease is diabetes mellitus.
