Intelectin 1 (ITLN1), which in our analysis had the highest expression differences between the EAT and the SAT (Figure 2, Supplemental File-Figure 2A), is abundantly expressed in visceral adipose tissue and known to regulate obesity-related cardiometabolic disorders through its anti-inflammatory activity [29].
