IFNG and malaria: The subgroup analysis by the study design showed that higher mean IFN-γ levels were found in patients with severe malaria than in those with uncomplicated malaria in prospective observational studies (MD: 25.26 pg/mL, 95% CI 10.76–39.76 pg/mL, I2: 99.61%, six studies, 296 severe cases/266 uncomplicated cases) and case–control studies (MD: 18.24 pg/mL, 95% CI 4.92–31.56 pg/mL, I2: 95.6%, five studies, 223 severe cases/255 uncomplicated cases).
