To our surprise, it was c-Myc that responded rapidly to matrine treatment, and matrine reduced the mRNA levels of c-Myc without significantly affecting other early genes in U937, HL-60 (acute myeloid leukemia cell lines) and K562 cell lines (chronic myeloid leukemia cell lines) (Figure 1A).
