It is worth mentioning that SGEF expression is upregulated in glioma cell lines in response to Fn14 activation and is not only required for cell migration but also seems to contribute to resistance to DNA damaging chemotherapeutic drugs, such as temozolomide (TMZ), which is used to treat glioblastoma (Ensign et al., 2016) In fact, patient derived glioblastoma cells with acquired TMZ resistance display higher Fn14 expression and enhanced migratory activity compared to TMZ-sensitive cells (Hersh et al., 2018a; Hersh et al., 2018b).
