It was found that patients initiated on ART with higher baseline CD4 counts (early-stage HIV infection with CD4 > 350 cells/μL) were more adherent than those who were initiated on ART with low baseline CD4 counts (late-stage HIV infection with CD4 < 200 cells/μL).43 By contrast, Meloni et al.44 discovered that the average adherence was lower in patients initiated at higher baseline CD4 counts (> 350 cells/mm3). Here, CD4 is linked to HIV infectious disease.
