In mice with heart-specific ferritin heavy chain (FTH) gene knockout, decreased iron level and enhanced oxidative stress in the heart tissue were observed, which lead to mild cardiac injury after aging; while further high-iron diet would cause hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and ferroptosis was involved in the pathophysiological process of the disease. This evidence concerns the gene FTH1 and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
