Albertobello and colleagues demonstrated that a mutation in the gene, PIK3R2 (that encodes a regulatory subunit of PI3K) and other PI3K subunit genes were found in a newly established thymic carcinoma (MP57) cell line, where inhibition of PI3K with GDC-0941 resulted in anti-tumor activity (8). The gene discussed is PIK3CD; the disease is neoplasm.
