AGE‐reduced Sirt1 levels have been detected in patients with type 2 DM (T2DM), suggesting that AGEs could subdue protective mechanisms in T2DM; moreover, SIRT1 and SIRT1‐dependent NFκB P65 deacetylation levels normalized after AGE restrictions (Uribarri et al., 2011). This evidence concerns the gene SIRT1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
