While several studies have found single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) within components of the mTORC1 pathway affecting cancer susceptibility [16–18], mirror approaches establishing an association with increased BMI are awaited: to our knowledge, no genetic or epigenetic studies have linked SNPs in components of the mTOR pathway with overweight and obesity. This evidence concerns the gene MTOR and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
