SLC5A2 and chronic kidney disease: The advent of the SGLT2 (sodium/glucose cotransporter 2) inhibitors (SGLT2i), which increase urinary excretion of glucose as well as decreasing blood pressure (BP), has provided a major advance for the prevention and treatment of diabetes, CKD, and CV events, since the obtained decrease of albuminuria, prevents estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) decline and reduces CV mortality [10,11].
