Previous studies have reported that methylation changes of certain genes, such as ATP binding cassette subfamily G member 1 (ABCG1), sterol regulatory element binding transcription factor (SREBP1), and carnitine palmitoyl transferase 1A (CPT1A), were related to obesity, and these DNA methylation-related markers might act as predictors of obesity and related diseases. Here, SREBF1 is linked to obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
