Parkinson’s disease (PD) is an age-related progressive neurodegenerative disease characterized by the loss of nigrostriatal dopaminergic (DAergic) neurons and the accumulation of intracellular inclusions, known as Lewy bodies, which are composed primarily of alpha-synuclein in the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNpc). This evidence concerns the gene SNCA and Parkinson disease.
