In particular, oral administration of the PPARγ agonist pioglitazone attenuated MPTP-induced glial activation and prevented dopaminergic cell loss in the SNpc, while PPARα activation by fenofibrate prevented the death of dopaminergic neurons of the SNpc in the MPTP model of PD, whereas bezafibrate, another PPARα agonist, was inactive (Dehmer et al., 2004). This evidence concerns the gene PPARG and Parkinson disease.
