VEGFA and age-related macular degeneration: Corticosteroids and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are very effective at reducing angiogenesis and inflammation in AMD, but because of their numerous side effects, including preeclampsia, insulin sensitivity, chronic fatigue, tearfulness, uveitis, skin thinning, cataracts, glaucoma, and gastric ulceration, they are only used in combination therapies with photodynamic therapy or anti-VEGF drugs.
