Given the known heightened inflammatory state in T2DM and the potential role of NLRP3 in mediating later AD risk in midlife T2DM, we assessed differences in baseline gene expression between those with midlife T2DM and HCs in (i) pro-inflammatory (IL1B, IL6) and (ii) NLRP3-inflammasome related genes (NLRP3, ASC, CASP1). This evidence concerns the gene CASP1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
