While two studies noted pleiotropic SNPs that may affect their interpretation of the causal effect of serum urate on blood pressure,[16, 18], the SNPs used in those studies differed from those used in this study: SLC2A9 and ABCG2 genes are known urate genes that are the leading loci driving the association with gout, and we find SNP rs2231142 at ABCG2 is considered both in their and our study. The gene discussed is ABCG2; the disease is gout.
