In placebo-controlled investigations of individuals with type 1 diabetes, those who took SGLT2 inhibitors had a greater chance of developing ketoacidosis than those who got a placebo. Ketoacidosis is a dangerous illness that can be fatal and requires emergency hospitalisation. Patients on dapagliflozin have died as a result of ketoacidosis. Dapagliflozin should not be used to treat patients with type 1 diabetes. If patients on dapagliflozin display symptoms and signs of severe metabolic acidosis, they should be evaluated for ketoacidosis. Here, SLC5A2 is linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus.
