In conclusion, our results show that HIV+ status was significantly associated with a high frequency of BV and polymicrobial infections, highlighting the importance of women with HIV attending routine microbiological evaluations to manage genital infections because women with <200 CD4 cells/mm3 have more persistent infections and that the presence of certain microorganisms, as M. hominis can increase the level of genital HIV by 100 times (13), which is a major concern in this population in which these bacteria are present and condoms are not used consistently. This evidence concerns the gene CD4 and infection.
