FOXO3 and central nervous system cancer: Functionally, genes upregulated in FOXO3-ablated aged quiescent NSCs and GSCs (repressed by FOXO3; 564 genes) were associated with mitochondrial oxPhos, the ETC (mitochondrial respiratory chain complex I assembly), and mitochondrial translation (Figure 7B,C), suggesting stem cell quiescence, both in aging and in gliomas, is associated with a particular mitochondrial state.
