P2RY13 and bacterial infectious disease: Studies have shown that the ADP-mediated P2Y12/P2Y13 signaling pathway protects the host against bacterial infections through ERK signaling (Zhang et al., 2018), and P2Y13 and its ligand ADP can be released from infected cells as a signal during viral infection, limiting replication of DNA and RNA viruses (Zhang et al., 2019), having the potential as antiviral targets.
