Fibrosis is defined as a process of excessive fibrous connective tissue accumulation containing collagen and fibronectin components of extracellular matrix (ECM), known to lead to organ dysfunction and subsequently depending on the organ in question heart failure, kidney disease, end-stage liver disease and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis [32, 33]. Here, FN1 is linked to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
