Since tumor cells are sensitive to phospholipase C activation (Halder et al., 2014), calcium entry through Piezo1 or other mechanochannels at the plasma membrane could activate phospholipase C hydrolysis of PIP2 to release inositol triphosphate, IP3; however, the direct activation of IP3 release by Piezo1 action has not been seen, which implicates a secondary mechanism in transformed growth cells (Kuriyama et al., 2022). This evidence concerns the gene PIEZO1 and neoplasm.
