Loss of TM7SF2 increased incidence of skin papillomas, precursors to skin cancer, in mice (Bellezza et al., 2015), indicating potential tumor suppressor activity, while in cervical cancer cells in vitro, expression of TM7SF2 was reported to promote cell proliferation and metastasis (Xu et al., 2021), suggesting potential tumor-type specificity. Here, TM7SF2 is linked to cervical carcinoma.
