CD4 and cirrhosis of liver: Little is known whether liver cirrhosis affects CD4 cell count recovery; however, there are studies indicating that HIV/HCV-coinfected patients with lower CD4 recovery rates show more intense destructive processes in the liver than successfully recovered subjects [58], while also higher rates of CD4 recovery may lead to transient liver injury in patients with HIV/HCV coinfection, due to activation of the immune process [59].
