The immunological response observed in the SUDV-exposed animals was consistent with observations in human filovirus infections: high levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines (e.g., IL-1β, IL-4, IL-1RA, IL-6, IL-8, IL-15 and IL-16) and chemokines (e.g., MIP-1α, MIP-1β, MCP-1) observed in human infections [29,35] were observed during acute infection and peak disease around Days 5 to 9 post-exposure.
