In our previous studies on the rat MCA occlusion model, we employed ex vivo gene-engineered umbilical cord blood mononuclear cells (UCB-MC), simultaneously transduced with three adenoviral vectors (Ad5) carrying vegf165, gdnf, and ncam1, for cell-mediated gene therapy in the acute phase [10] and for the preventive treatment [11] of stroke. This evidence concerns the gene GDNF and stroke disorder.
