Due to the high number of cases of TB, which may limit the lives of patients, and the development of extrapulmonary forms, which are difficult to diagnose, the present study evaluated the epidemiological characteristics of patients with pulmonary TB and extrapulmonary TB and compared the levels of the IFN-γ, TNF-α, IL-6, IL-2, IL-4, IL-10 and IL-17 cytokines between the groups of patients with different forms of TB and a control group to identify a concentration threshold for cytokines that would allow the molecular characterization of each type of TB. The gene discussed is IFNG; the disease is pulmonary tuberculosis.
