Recently, the introduction of novel antihyperglycemic drugs—sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT-2) inhibitors and glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs), due to highly beneficial effects on cardiovascular and renal outcomes, has rapidly revolutionized treatment approaches and both drug groups have become a new treatment standard in current recommendations of diabetes associations [13]. This evidence concerns the gene GLP1R and diabetes mellitus.
