SeMet seems to have a protective effect on MeHg-induced regulations of APOE and GFAP (on protein and RNA level) and interacting effects on a range of upstream regulators related to AD, in addition to several features already mentioned involved in immune response/inflammation, redox balance and cell plasticity which demonstrates possible associations between selenium, MeHg and AD in the present study. This evidence concerns the gene APOE and Alzheimer disease.
