Indeed, beside a number of systemic pathologies characterized by Nrf2 alterations, dysfunctions in the Nrf2 pathway have been related to various ocular diseases, such as diabetic retinopathy (DR), age-related macular degeneration, central retinal artery occlusion, uveitis, and glaucoma [40,41,42,43,44,45,46,47]. This evidence concerns the gene NFE2L2 and age-related macular degeneration.
