Both nicotinic receptors and ASIC channels are widely distributed throughout the nervous systems and contribute to synaptic transmission, neuronal excitability, cognitive function, pain signal transduction, etc. They are related to neurodegenerative disorders and other pathological conditions, namely, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, epilepsy, anxiety, depression and addictive behavior.
